Vacation Bible School: Day One

What an amazing first day at the Reliance Church 2013 Vacation Bible School (VBS). We had over a hundred volunteers who have been working hard for weeks to make this a reality and we are already seeing the fruits of their labor and of God’s provision. Almost 600 kids came out to play games, make new friends, and most importantly, to hear about Jesus. Today was by far the largest children’s outreach we’ve ever done and we’re thrilled to get the opportunity to do it four more times this week! We’re blown away that God is not only using Reliance Church as a way to reach kids from Temecula, Murrieta, and Menifee, but He has also given us the ability to offer this VBS to the community completely free of cost for

The Perfect Weakness

The-Perfect-Weakness

The warmth of the sun has beckoned me into the garden the last few days. I find it to be so therapeutic, gardening. As I made my way around the yard, watering the plants, I came to the fig tree, and my heart was encouraged and made well. This fig tree was a $10 purchase at Lowes last month, due to the damage caused by the frost. Lowes considered it to be worthless, discounting it even more when I went to purchase it.

I brought the fig tree home, in high hopes of a flourishing, bountiful tree this spring. February continued on, with many more freezing nights, temperatures dropping below what the young tree could bear. I became discouraged and settled in my mind that maybe Lowes was right. The damage might be irreversible.

30 Days Of Prayer

Prayer-Web-Slide

As our Easter 2012 service, Ransomed is quickly approaching, our desire as a church in Temecula is to put a strong emphasis on prayer. We think it is vitally important to be constantly praying for God’s will over Reliance Church and that is why we are making such a strong effort to cover this event in it.

The greatest privilege a Christian has is prayer. Prayer is not only a privilege, but it is also the responsibility of every believer. Jesus said,

Are You In The Faith?

After getting saved, people often expect to be magically transformed into model Christians overnight. This is a prevalent, but unrealistic expectation. So what, then, should a daily walk with Christ look like? Without daily immersion in the Bible and the fortification of prayer, it quickly becomes discouraging trying to decipher if we are in God’s will. Ever reach a point where you can’t figure out if God is in working in your life at all? How do we know if we are in the faith? 2 Corinthians 13:5 teaches, “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified”(NKJV). How can we do this successfully?

What Controls Your Mood?

Do you ever have “just one of those days” in which the darker forces seem to be industriously wreaking havoc in the orderly calm of your life, and even the most trivial incidents are producing rather disagreeable results? The barista made you a lukewarm whole milk latte, although you specifically ordered an extra hot soy latte. How do they even mix that up? You called your sister up to share some good news, but she ended up monopolizing the conversation and complaining about her “unfair” life for forty minutes. Your latest electricity bill is triple the cost of last month’s, so the family will now be banned from touching the thermostat. Regardless of how insignificant or consequential the circumstances of a bad day may be, resist the urge to succumb to moodiness. No amount of spilled coffee, annoying family disputes, or incompliance from your spouse justifies your wallowing in sullen terseness, egocentric vexation, or bitter resentment. Rather than squandering our days self-centeredly focused on our unhappy travails, we must actively pursue a Christ-centered mind.
