Today we’re highlighting the Clover family, currently serving as missionaries in Papua New Guinea! Steve recently spoke with a Papua New Guinean who was reticent to attend church because he didn’t believe it changed people. He believed that because they don’t have the Bible in their own language, people don’t really understand what the Bible says. Through their lengthy conversation, Steve conveyed to him that the Christian life is about knowing and loving Jesus and then, in turn, loving others. The man was so grateful to receive this information and eager to share it with his wife. Steve was encouraged to continue the work of making the Bible available to everyone in their own language.
Fear. This one small word is packed with so much influence that at times I am overtaken or paralyzed by it. It is an obstruction that distorts the direction which is being laid out and appointed for me to go. It is a shadow that causes the light upon my path to grow dim and seemingly unknown. It is a heaviness that causes my heart to quiver and my mind to race. This fear has gripped my life for many years, strangling chance after chance for me to step out in faith and move courageously. Have you ever felt like this or experienced this at any point in your life? I can’t go there. I can’t do that. What will become of this or result of that?
“And it seems to me you lived your life like a candle in the wind, never knowing who to cling to when the rain set in…” Mind-blowing lyrics penned by Elton John illuminating the tragic life of Norma Jean snuffed out trying to maintain the silver screen image of Marilyn Monroe while unable to maintain her smoke screened life.
Let’s just be honest. We all have bad days. Some of my hardest moments come at the end of a string of days that I have been solo parenting. My husband travels often and the care of our three little girls all under five years old often lands on my shoulders. Feelings of bitterness, entitlement, and frustration sneak up on me and before I know it, the angry monster swallows me whole. I become short tempered with my kids, grumpy, and lacking in compassion.
Are you content? God’s Word encourages us to learn to be content in whatever our situation. Listen to a devotional by Emily Mariano about embracing what God has given you.
