2012 Men’s Retreat

On Septemeber 14th, nearly 100 men from Reliance attended the 2012 Men’s Retreat, held at the Idyllwild Pines Christian Conference Center.  The men went up to focus on their relationship with the Lord and grow in their walks and the Lord showed up in a mighty way. Men were developing new friendships with each other, praying together, encouraging one another, and were making decisions to respond to God’s calling in their life. Best of all, three men gave their lives to the Lord.

The scripture for the weekend was 2 Timothy 2:1-7, which says,

“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.”

Pastor Ted Leavenworth, Pastor Nick Mitchell, and Scott Losee (a Reliance Church elder) all gave spirit led messages in the Main Sessions that focused on the ministry that God has put us in, serving and stepping up as men, and knowing the Word of God. The men also had the opportunity to break out into small groups, which consisted of discussion based studies that focused on forgiveness, stewardship, brotherly love, and balancing our spiritual walk and family.

The retreat also included an afterglow that was a time of spiritually lead sharing and acoustic worship around fire pit, and early morning prayer and proverbs session, and the first Reliance Men bag toss champions were crowned. Worship went along with each session, and let me tell you, it was an awesome sound hearing the Men of Reliance responding to the Lord in worship together.

I’m looking forward to seeing how God works in the men who stepped out in faith to sign-up for new bible studies and discipleship programs, as well as those men who gave their lives to the Lord!

Bring on the 2013 Retreat!
