The Light of Christ in a Dark World

Oppressively dark. Joyless. Pleasure-driven. Appetitive. Self-seeking. Sin indulged. Exploitative. Desolate. Mercenary. Evil masquerades as good, and righteousness is derided. Utter depravity reigns. Jeering smiles conceal haunting emptiness. Senseless vanity governs lives. Morality is scorned. Obscenity is praised. Death prevails. This is what happens when you allow the world to conform you.

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” -1 Peter 5:8 NIV

This is the reality we are living with. A spiritual battle is raging all around us, and there are countless people who desperately need Jesus. What are we doing to share Christ with the lost world? We must first ensure that we, ourselves, don’t fall prey to Satan’s traps before we can effectively influence others, hence the armor of God is paramount.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” –Ephesians 6:10-18 NIV

When equipped with the armor of God, we have the power to defend ourselves from the affront of evil. Armed with the offensive weapon of God’s Word, we are prepared to radically pierce the world’s darkness by sharing the brilliance of the Gospel. So let us live for Christ. Let us live like Him.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” -Romans 12:2 NIV

Radiant in truth. Joyful. Humbly washing the feet of others. Authentic. Evil exposed. Sanctified. Innocence reclaimed. Loving unconditionally. Giving generously. Self-sacrificial. Championing morality in the face of persecution. Sin resisted. Ministering at a personal cost. Defying comfort zones. God’s grace abounds. Defending righteousness. Life triumphs. This is what happens when you allow Jesus to transform you.
